Summer Sees New Bloggers
- Brooke's Battez Vous - You francophones out there will have to tell me what that means. This guy is a linguist master. Remember all those posts I made about the trials and joys of studying Hebrew? This is the fella who put me up to all of that.
- Raisin's Salutation - She's a classamate of mine from Iowa and going to be a middler (second year student) this upcoming academic term.
- Laurel's Highway - Another classmate of mine, also going to be a middler who just couldn't deal with the peer pressure to blog and finally gave in.
Welcome, y'all, to Blogaria!

I'm happy to demystify the title of my blog. "Battez-vous" means "Fight!" I draw it from the advice received by D'Artagnan from his father in the first chapter of The Three Musketeers. He is admonished to pick fights and look for trouble. It's a scene I always find charming and funny, illustrating in a stroke a volatile era where thin-skinnedness and youthful pique are the surest path to the heights of the court. To use it as a blog title was an impulse I'm still feeling out; maybe I'm just feeling a little sophomoric and pugnacious. To journal at all is, I find, a trouble-seeking venture, a refusal to let sleeping dogs lie. Life is big and scary: let's poke it with a stick and see what it does.
Thanks for your welcome!
